We decided to hire a car today which cost $40 or so for 24hrs.
Drove to Phuket town in the morning to pick up a pair of shoes for Sid (you owe us!). It took us a while to find the shop as we couldnt read thai and the street signs. :) So when we did finally ask someone after driving around for 20 or so minutes, the place was just 2 blocks away right in front of us. 
Another drive without a clue lead us to one of the bigger shopping centers (Central Festival). Big name brands but with smaller price tags. Just ask Jen how much her birthday present was (Genuine Guess handbag). This shopping center also had video game machines with playstation 2 inside! 
One interesting (although sad) thing you see here in Phuket are the 'evacuation site' & 'tsunami' signs. A cab driver told us the water was up to 10m high in Patong Beach area but only 1.5m high in Karon Beach area (where we were staying).
Dinner was great, cost a bit because of the crab and 2 steaks but it was still under $80!
One day left for Phuket until our next visit (Sept4-8) before we go back home on the night of the 8th.
